GPA Calculator
Calculate your GPA the way registrars do — letter grades weighted by credit hours, on the standard 4.0 scale.
| Course | Grade | Credits | Remove |
|---|
Scale: A/A+ = 4.0 · A− = 3.7 · B+ = 3.3 · B = 3.0 · B− = 2.7 · C+ = 2.3 · C = 2.0 · C− = 1.7 · D+ = 1.3 · D = 1.0 · D− = 0.7 · F = 0.0
About this tool
GPA is a weighted average: each course contributes its grade points multiplied by its credit hours, divided by the total credits. A 4-credit A lifts your GPA more than a 1-credit A — which is why a simple average of grades is not your GPA.
This calculator uses the standard US 4.0 scale shown under the table. Rows start empty: pick a grade and enter the credits for each course, use “Add course” for more rows and the ✕ to remove one, and rows without a grade or with zero credits are ignored. Your entries are kept in this browser (only on this device) so a stray reload doesn't wipe a semester's typing. Schools vary — some weight A+ above 4.0, some use plus/minus differently — so treat the result as the standard-scale figure and check your institution's exact policy for official purposes.
How to use it
- Fill in each course: grade and credit hours (course names are optional, for your own reference).
- Use “Add course” for more rows.
- Your weighted GPA updates as you type.
Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
For each course, multiply the grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, …) by the credit hours. Add those products, then divide by the total credit hours.
Does an F affect GPA if the course has no credits?
A zero-credit course is excluded from the calculation here (and at most schools). An F in a credited course absolutely counts — as 0.0 points with its credits still in the denominator.
Can I calculate a cumulative GPA across semesters?
Yes — enter all courses from all semesters in one list, or combine semester GPAs weighted by their credits: (GPA₁ × credits₁ + GPA₂ × credits₂) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂).
