Discount Calculator
Enter a price and the percent off — see the sale price and your exact saving instantly.
About this tool
“25% off” is a promise, not a price. This calculator converts it into the two numbers that matter: what you actually pay, and what you actually save. Sale price = original × (1 − percent ÷ 100); saving = original × percent ÷ 100.
It is also a quiet defence against discount theatre: a “40% off” banner on a price that was raised last week produces a smaller saving than the banner implies — the numbers here are computed from the price in front of you, not the marketing.
How to use it
- Enter the original (pre-discount) price.
- Enter the discount percentage.
- Read the sale price and the saving — both update as you type.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount by hand?
Multiply the price by the percent and divide by 100 to get the saving, then subtract: $120 at 25% off saves $30, so you pay $90.
Can I stack two discounts?
Apply them one at a time: enter the first sale price as the original price for the second discount. Two 20% discounts equal 36% off in total, not 40% — sequential discounts multiply, they do not add.
Does it work in other currencies?
The maths works in any currency — a percentage off is a percentage off. The results are printed with a $ sign, so if you enter a price in pounds, euros or yen, read the figures in that currency instead.
