About this tool

“How old are you?” usually gets a years-only answer, but forms, eligibility rules and curiosity often want the exact figure. This calculator breaks a birth date down to years, months and days — the same way official documents compute age — and adds the fun numbers: total days lived so far, and how many days remain until the next birthday.

The month arithmetic follows the standard calendar rule: full years first, then full months, then the remaining days. When an anniversary falls in a shorter month it is counted on that month's last day — a 31 January birthday completes its month on the last day of February. Leap-day birthdays follow the same rule: someone born on 29 February is counted as turning a year older on 28 February in non-leap years. It also works for things that are not people — the age of a company, a car, a building or a project.

How to use it

  1. Enter the date of birth (or the start date of anything).
  2. Read the exact age in years, months and days.
  3. Check the total days and when the next birthday falls.

Frequently asked questions

How is exact age calculated?

Full years from the birth date to today, then full months beyond that, then the remaining days. If an anniversary falls in a month that has no such day — a 31st in a 30-day month, or 29 February in a non-leap year — it is counted on that month's last day, the standard clamped-anniversary method.

Can I calculate the age of something that isn't a person?

Yes — enter any start date: a company's founding, a car's registration, a project's kickoff. The math is identical.

What about leap-day babies?

Someone born on 29 February is counted as turning a year older on 28 February in non-leap years (and on 29 February itself in leap years). Some families and jurisdictions celebrate on 1 March instead — this calculator uses the 28 February convention.

Does it work for a future date?

No — the calculator refuses future dates and asks for a date that has already happened, because an age can't be negative.
