About this tool
Sometimes the number you need is letters and nothing else: a title that must contain a certain number of letters, a puzzle or word-game constraint, an anagram check, or a form that rejects digits and symbols. A normal character counter buries that number under spaces and punctuation; this one leads with it.
Letters means letters in any alphabet — Latin, accented characters, Greek, Cyrillic, Japanese kana and kanji all count. Digits and total characters are shown separately so you can see exactly what the rest of your text is made of. The counting runs in your browser, so your text stays on your device.
How to use it
- Paste or type your text into the box.
- Read the Letters total — that is letters only, no spaces, digits or punctuation.
- Use the other figures if your limit is defined differently.
Frequently asked questions
What is counted as a letter?
Any character in the Unicode “Letter” category: A–Z, accented letters like é, and letters from other scripts including Greek, Cyrillic and Japanese. Numbers, spaces and punctuation are excluded.
Why would I need to count only letters?
Common reasons: word games and puzzles, naming and branding constraints, academic exercises, and forms or systems that specify a letter count rather than a character count.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and your text is never transmitted or saved.
