Alphabetize List
Put any list in alphabetical order — A–Z, Z–A, by length, or shuffled — with numbers sorted the natural way.
About this tool
Bibliographies, name lists, product catalogues, glossaries — sooner or later every list needs to be in order, and sorting a long list by hand is where mistakes breed. Paste the list, pick an order, and it is done.
Sorting uses natural number order, so “Item 2” correctly comes before “Item 10” (plain alphabetical sorting gets that wrong). Lines are trimmed before sorting, so an indented paste sorts by its text, not its spaces. Sorting by length is handy for everything from password audits to poetry — equal-length lines keep their original order — and shuffle turns a list into a random order for draws, quizzes and turn-taking. All processing happens in your browser.
How to use it
- Paste your list, one item per line.
- Choose A–Z, Z–A, by length, or shuffle.
- Copy the sorted list from the result box.
Frequently asked questions
Does it sort numbers correctly?
Yes — it uses natural sorting, so 2 comes before 10 and “Version 9” before “Version 12”, which is how people expect lists to read.
What happens to blank lines?
They are removed, so the result contains only your actual items.
Can I remove duplicates at the same time?
Yes — tick “Remove duplicates” above and repeats are stripped as part of the sort, keeping the first occurrence. For heavier list cleaning (case options, blank-line control), the Remove Duplicate Lines tool has more switches.
